Challenge

The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), with more than 50,000 members worldwide, wanted to better understand how professionals view the value of membership in today’s changing landscape.

With free online content widely available, increasing career mobility, and an ageing workforce, professional bodies are under pressure to demonstrate relevance and impact.

IOSH commissioned Enventure Research to explore these issues in depth.

Approach

Working closely with IOSH, Enventure designed a survey that explored the role of membership in professional development, workplace impact, and career progression. Open to both members and non-members, the online survey was promoted through IOSH’s networks and external channels, attracting thousands of responses.

To add further depth of insight, Enventure conducted six focus groups with OSH professionals and 14 in-depth interviews with employers of OSH professionals and business leaders, ensuring that the survey findings were enriched with real-world perspectives.

Outcome

More than 3,600 professionals took part in the survey, providing a rich picture of how IOSH membership, and professional membership in general, is viewed across the health and safety sector.

Enventure Research analysed the data and produced a detailed report, giving IOSH clear evidence and ‘proof points’ to shape future strategies.

These insights will guide member attraction and retention efforts, ensuring IOSH continues to demonstrate its value to the OSH profession, and positive statistics from the research have been used in membership campaigns.
