Helping the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy develop their Equity, Diversity and Belonging Strategy

Survey responses from CSP members and staff

Online focus groups with CSP members

Written responses analysed from networks, committees and union members

Challenge

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) is the professional, educational and trade union body for the UK’s 60,000 chartered physiotherapists, physiotherapy students and support workers. The CSP drafted an Equity, Diversity and Belonging (EDB) strategy, in collaboration with its stakeholders, with an accompanying draft glossary of terms and phrases used in the strategy and their definitions.

Before finalising the strategy and the glossary, the CSP wished to consult with members and staff to gain insight into whether the language and terminology used are widely understood, whether members and staff felt the strategy would result in positive and lasting change and understand their role, and if there was anything missing in the strategy. Enventure Research was appointed to deliver the consultation with CSP members and staff and analyse the findings.

Approach

A questionnaire was co-designed by the CSP and Enventure Research, which took around five to ten minutes to complete. The survey was securely hosted online by Enventure Research and promoted by the CSP to members and staff via a range of communication channels, including by email, through social media, on the CSP website, in online publications, in e-newsletters, at online events and through networks. Over the consultation period, 612 responses were received from CSP members and staff.

To supplement the online survey, a programme of qualitative consultation activity was conducted simultaneously. This included three online focus groups with members and one in-depth interview with a CSP staff member, moderated by Enventure Research using a flexible co-designed discussion guide. In addition, 13 written responses were received from networks, committees and union members which required analysis.

“Enventure Research were very professional and diligent in understanding what we needed at the outset (in the tender) and throughout. They kept in touch and were responsive to our questions and adaptations. The research was completed on time and to a high standard and presented clearly. I won’t hesitate to consider working with Enventure Research again – their service was good value for money.”
