The brief

  • WYCA wanted resident insight to inform the development of five cycle hubs across West Yorkshire.
  • The research needed to explore the needs of both regular cyclists and people who could potentially be encouraged to cycle more often.

The approach

  • Three online focus groups were moderated by Enventure Research, with participants broadly representative by age, gender and ethnicity, and all five West Yorkshire local authority areas represented.
  • One group involved regular 'active cyclists', while two involved 'active considerers' who said they could be encouraged to cycle more.
  • Discussion covered cycling habits, awareness of cycle hubs, possible services, locations, and opening times. Feedback from a separate WYCA-led officer group was also incorporated.

The outcome

  • Enventure Research analysed the feedback thematically, highlighting broad patterns and important differences between groups.
  • All evidence, including local authority officer feedback, was brought together in a comprehensive report.
  • The findings were used to inform planning and development of the proposed cycle hubs.
