The project

Exploring shared ownership from the resident perspective

A representative survey focused on both the initial decision to buy through shared ownership and residents’ subsequent experience.

01

The brief

Peabody wanted insight into the views of residents participating in its shared ownership scheme. The research explored reasons for purchasing through shared ownership, awareness of alternative products, perceptions of affordability and how these had changed, and residents’ future housing aspirations.

02

The approach

Enventure Research supported questionnaire development and piloted the survey with a small number of residents before fieldwork. The final questionnaire was administered by trained telephone interviewers to 650 shared owners, with quotas on location, tenancy start date, and household size to support a representative sample.

03

The outcome

The research provided Peabody with evidence on the lived experience of shared owners and was intended to inform future development and improvement of its shared ownership model.

  • 650 telephone interviews with shared owners
  • Questionnaire piloted with residents before full fieldwork
  • Quotas on location, tenancy start date, and household size
  • Evidence on affordability, motivations, alternatives, and future aspirations
