The project

Making a large school-health dataset useful for commissioners and schools

Detailed analysis across age groups, geography, equalities characteristics, and open-ended feedback.

01

The brief

Wakefield Council uses the Health Related Behaviour Questionnaire every two years to collect robust information about the health and lifestyles of children and young people. Enventure Research was commissioned to independently analyse and report the 2020 survey data.

02

The approach

The dataset contained 9,038 valid responses from pupils in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9. Analysis included thematic coding of open-ended questions, subgroup comparisons by geography and equalities groups, and comparisons within and across year groups.

03

The outcome

Separate reports were produced for each year group, alongside an additional comparison report showing similarities and differences across all four age groups. The research provided schools and local authority commissioners with a detailed evidence base on health behaviours and lifestyle choices among children and young people in Wakefield.

  • 9,038 valid pupil responses
  • Four school year groups analysed separately and comparatively
  • Geographic and equalities subgroup analysis
  • Separate year-group reports plus an overall comparison report
