The project
A national workforce survey on sustainability in and beyond the workplace
Large-scale research exploring current behaviour as well as the factors that could encourage future action.
01
The brief
The NHS and Public Health Sustainable Development Unit commissioned Enventure Research to understand NHS employees’ attitudes towards sustainability, the actions they already took, and how they could be supported to reduce waste, carbon emissions, and resource use.
02
The approach
The questionnaire was developed in partnership with the Unit and piloted with NHS employees before launch. The final online survey was distributed by Health Service Discounts and covered environmental attitudes, commuting, green space, organisational support, current behaviours, and factors that might encourage further action. A total of 6,214 responses were received during the one-month fieldwork period.
03
The outcome
Enventure Research analysed the data and produced an independent report. The findings helped the Unit understand how best to support and encourage staff to reduce waste and improve the use of resources, with the potential to support cost savings for frontline services.
