The project
Capturing resident experience within a place-based regeneration programme
Community research designed to provide a local view of neighbourhood change while remaining comparable with the wider CLEVER Cities programme.
01
The brief
The CLEVER Cities project was delivering nature-focused regeneration and improvements in South Thamesmead. The Greater London Authority commissioned Enventure Research to survey local residents about the regeneration and their experience of the area, with particular attention to nature and outdoor space.
02
The approach
The questionnaire was developed with the Greater London Authority and repeated questions used elsewhere in the CLEVER Cities programme so comparisons could be made. Topics included regeneration, community and socialising, outdoors and nature, satisfaction with the local area, and mental health and wellbeing. IQCS-trained interviewers completed interviews at community events, on street, and on residents’ doorsteps.
03
The outcome
A total of 150 interviews were completed. Enventure Research produced detailed reporting with subgroup analysis by characteristics including gender, age, ethnicity, area of South Thamesmead, and length of residency, providing a more detailed view of how regeneration was experienced by different resident groups.
- 150 face-to-face interviews with South Thamesmead residents
- Questionnaire aligned with wider CLEVER Cities research for comparability
- Fieldwork delivered through several community-based contact routes
- Subgroup analysis showing differences across resident groups
