The project
Using annual tracking evidence to identify where deeper research is needed
A focused qualitative study developed directly from an issue emerging in Clarion’s longitudinal resident research.
01
The brief
The annual Clarion Index had recorded a steady increase in the proportion of residents identifying as disabled. It also showed that disabled residents were more likely to say their home did not meet their accessibility needs or that Clarion services were difficult to access. Clarion established a research steering group and commissioned Enventure Research to investigate the barriers behind those findings.
02
The approach
We conducted 18 depth interviews with residents who identified as disabled and had reported either difficulty accessing Clarion services, unmet accessibility needs in their home, or both. Interviews took place by telephone or Zoom and used a flexible discussion guide that could be tailored to each participant. Recruitment was structured to include a broad mix of demographics and circumstances.
03
The outcome
We undertook comprehensive thematic analysis and produced a report supported by anonymised verbatim feedback. The research gave Clarion a deeper understanding of residents’ experiences and the barriers they faced, providing evidence to inform improvements to home and service accessibility.
